Sarah Ure

Clinical Psychologist BSc(Psych)Hons, MPsych(Clinical)

About Me

Hi! I’m Sarah, I’m a Clinical Psychologist working in both public and private mental health. I completed my undergraduate and honours years at the University of Western Australia, and then my Masters of Clinical Psychology at Curtin University. I have had experience working in public hospital settings and private clinics, and at the moment I work both privately and with the Child and Adolescent Health Service.

My approach to therapy is centred around building a trusting therapeutic relationship, so that we can work collaboratively on whatever problems you feel you need support with. I use a variety of evidence-based approaches, and once I get to know you and what you are needing from therapy, I take an individualised approach drawing from these. I like to place an emphasis on forming a shared understanding of what has contributed to difficulties developing, and then working together on building skills that will help reduce these difficulties in the here-and-now.

My therapy practice draws from a number of treatment models, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Metacognitive Therapy, and Mentalising Based Therapy (MBT).

For the last few years I have developed a special interest in working with chronic pain and health conditions, and take a biopsychosocial approach to treating chronic pain, considering the many factors that can either exacerbate or alleviate pain.

I enjoy working with adults, adolescents, and children to address a variety of presenting issues, including:

  • Anxiety (generalised, panic, social anxiety, and phobias)
  • Depression and other mood disorders
  • Chronic pain
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Parenting difficulties

For a standard 50 minute session the fee is $240. If you have a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, you will be eligible to receive a Medicare rebate of $131.65 per session for up to 10 sessions in a calendar year.

Private health rebates are available without a Doctor’s referral. You cannot claim both a Medicare and private health rebate for the same session. I recommend contacting your private health provider for information on psychology rebates, so you can decide which rebate will work best for you.

As well as Medicare referrals, I also accept Workers’ Compensation and MVA injury claims.

Please keep in mind that I have clients on a waiting lists for appointments, and as I am usually booked out, do remember I need 48 hours notice for appointment cancellations in order to fill the slot. For cancellations of less than 48 hours, a $90 cancellation fee will be charged. Full payment is required for missed appointments.
